BOSTON - Anthony Ranaudo earned his second win in his second career Major League start on Wednesday.

And then he proceeded to earn his second option back to Pawtucket.

The Red Sox optioned Ranaudo back to the PawSox after Wednesday's game, and recalled reliever Alex Wilson.

It's nothing that Ranaudo did wrong, but John Farrell is sticking with Brandon Workman in the rotation - at least for the time being - and the team needs another reliever.

"Brandon was just skipped one turn, and Alex Wilson comes up and replaces Anthony to get us back to a normal complement of relievers/starters," Farrell said.

Whether it's Workman, Ranaudo, Rubby De La Rose, tonight's starter Allen Webster, or Sunday's starter Joe Kelly, there's a lot of youth in the Sox rotation.

Too much youth could be a bad thing, but Farrell is confident that in this case it isn't.

"Experience is one thing but talent is clearly the most important and we feel like we have talent in this rotation as it stands," Farrell said. "And I know that Ben [Cherington, Red Sox GM] will continue to do whatever he can to improve the team in every area, and that includes rotation."
