Potentially season-altering road trip awaits Red Sox

BOSTONAfter getting swept by the previously worst team in the American League East, the Red Sox hit the road for a six-game seven-day trip to play the two teams with the best records in the ALthe Rangers, and Yankees (New Yorks four-game sweep at the hands of the As notwithstanding).

The heat of Arlington, Texas, in July may be nothing compared to the heat the Sox will feel retuning to at Fenway Park if they cant put together a winning road trip. Their loss to the Blue Jays Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park dropped them once again to the .500 mark, with a record of 48-48, and dropped them into sole possession of last place in the AL East.

One factor in their favorthe Sox actually have a better record on the road, at 23-20 with a .535 winning percentage, than they do at home (25-28, .472).

Standing in front of his locker after the game, Cody Ross joked about being dressed appropriately. Head to toe, he was dressed in black.

Very important, Ross said of the upcoming trip. Talking about two of the best teams in the American League. Neither teams actually playing that well. But we need to come in and play a lot better than we did today thats for sure.

Dustin Pedroia and Jarrod Saltalamacchia echoed Ross.

We got to play well, said Pedroia. Especially at this time of the season. We need to find a way to grind out wins. Trying to find an identity of our team and we want to do something special.

It's real important, Saltalamacchia said. Every game, every game is important. We're going into a Texas ball club that can hit the ball pretty well. We can limit that and then go into our division against New York and win some games and kind of climb back into it.
