We know the City of Boston loves it some Big Papi, but this? This is loco.

According to the Boston Election Department, David Ortiz won the most write-in votes in Boston's mayoral election, which took place on Tuesday. There were 560 write-in votes, but it's not known exactly how many of those were for the Red Sox' 37-year-old designated hitter.

Martin Walsh of Dorchester won a tightly-contested election over fellow democrat John Connolly of South Boston, 72,514 votes (51.55 percent) to 67,606 (48.06 percent).

The 560 write-ins made up just 0.4 percent of the total votes cast, so even if Ortiz won them all, he obviously never really had a chance.

No matter. He won an election of his own last week: World Series MVP.
