BOSTON -- David Ortiz is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader with the Orioles. He had a family commitment in the Dominican Republic that had "been scheduled for quite some time," according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.

It was expected all along that Ortiz would miss Friday's series opener with Baltimore, but since that game was postponed, and since Ortiz is still in the process of returning to Boston, he'll miss the first game of the doubleheader instead.

Farrell expected that Ortiz would be back in time to play in Game 2 on Saturday, which will begin at 7:15 p.m.

AJ Pierzynski will serve as the designated hitter and his fifth for the Red Sox in Game 1.
