BALTIMORE -- David Ortiz had a pulled muscle in his calf last Monday and didn't play a lot in the final week of spring training games, but the Red Sox' DH said Sunday he's ready to go.

"Feeling better," reported Ortiz. "It's getting there. The game we had in Sarasota, the one at-bat I had, coming out of the box, I kind of slipped a little bit and calf tightened up on me.''

Ortiz had a brutal spring at the plate, and spent time in the final week working in the cage with hitting coach Greg Colbrunn and assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez. He was just 2-for-37 (.054) with 13 strikeouts, but seemed unconcerned Sunday.

"I'll be fine," vowed Ortiz.
