BOSTON -- Franklin Morales, who had been originally scheduled to pitch Monday night in Portland in relief of John Lackey and then re-scheduled to pitch Wednesday,
will now have that outing, too, "delayed by a couple of days'' because of a sore pectoral muscle.
Meanwhile, lefty Craig Breslow (shoulder) will pitch an inning for Portland Tuesday. He's scheduled to pitch again Saturday, probably at Pawtucket.
- Shane Victorino, who came out of Saturday's game in the late innings because of some back tightness, then missed both ends of Sunday's double-header, was back in the lineup Monday night.
"The job he's done to date has been outstanding,'' said Farrell, "particularly from the left side of the plate. His presence in the two-hole gives us a guy who can handle the bat. He's gotten on base at a high rate. It also puts Daniel (Nava) back in that five- or six-hole where he's had some big at-bats for us.''
- The lower third of the lineup is scuffling, with Stephen Drew is 3-for-30 since being activated and Will Middlebrooks is 4-for-43 since his three-homer game in Toronto on April 7.
"I just think it's a matter of at-bats with Stephen before things begin to click with him,'' said Farrell. "It's not a flaw in the swing or anything like that. It's just a matter of getting consistent timing and starting to build some confidence on his end.''
