Morales to make spring debut today for Red Sox

BRANDENTON -- Franklin Morales is set to make his Grapefruit League debut today against the Pirates.
The left-handed reliever was slowed by some shoulder weakness earlier in camp, then was sent to Boston to see a cardiologist when an irregular heart beat was detected during a physical.

"Today's about just getting his legs underneath him,'' said manager Bobby Valentine. ''I will not put him in (just) against left-handers, nor will I bring him in in the middle of an inning. He'll start the inning and get a feel, just like everybody else did.''
Valentine said there was still time for Morales to get ready in time to break camp with the team.

"From today, yes,'' said Valentine. "But again, Opening Day is just a day on the calendar.''
