BOSTON – Left-hander Franklin Morales could be activated on Tuesday, manager John Farrell said.
Morales, who has been on the disabled list all season with a low back strain and a pectoral muscle issue, is expected to work out of the Red Sox bullpen.
Morales was bothered by a back ailment throughout spring training and began a 30-day rehab stint last month, which had to be curtailed when he developed the pectoral problem. He began another rehab stint, and would have to be activated from that by June 5.
Morales has made five starts this spring with Single-A Greenville, Double-A Portland, and Triple-A Pawtucket, pitching a total of 17 innings and posting a record of 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA.
The Sox will have to make a corresponding roster move when Morales is activated, which could mean Alfredo Aceves will return to Pawtucket.
