FORT MYERS, Fla. -- After having played just two innings since last Thursday when he suffered a hyper-extended right middle finger, Will Middlebrooks was back in the lineup as the Red Sox hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday night.
"He went through a full day of activity (Tuesday)," said John Farrell. "He threw quite a bit, in terms of his throwing program and taking ground balls. He's back (in the lineup) tonight. We'll probably go (Wednesday night) and both games Friday and Saturday with him.''
Farrell praised Middlebrooks for the adjustment he's made at the plate this spring.
"He's laid off some breaking balls a little bit more," the manager said. "He's looked more confident in the box and he's put some good swings on pitches."
