Mike Giardi of "SportsNet Central" asked CSNNE Red Sox analyst Lou Merloni just how important chemistry is with this Red Sox team.

Does chemistry matter or is it talent mixed with chemistry? Giardi asked as the Red Sox start the second half in the first place in the AL East following a distastrous 93-loss season last year.

"Chemistry matters when the team is going bad, when you've lost three or four in a row," Merloni said. "That's when guys want to pick each other up. Chemistry matters and this is the time of year where chemistry matters most."

Giardi pointed out that it didn't happen last year because guys "didn't like each other."

As for the AL East and what team scares him the most? Merloni said it's the Tampa Bay Rays.

"They have the deepest pitching," he said, including ace lefty David Price, who is poised for a strong second half after coming back from injury.
