There's some debate as to who would start for the Red Sox in a one-game playoff, or who would start Game 1 of the postseason series.

But on Sports Tonight, there wasn't much disagreement. John Lackey seems to be the guy. Dan Shaughnessy has been pounding the Lackey drunk for a bit, and notes how Lackey always puts in a solid showing - despite not getting any run support.

"He gives you a professional outing every time," Shaughnessy said. "It's a quality start, or whatever you want to call it. At the end of six innings you're in the game if he's starting the game. He's trailed off a little bit over the last four, there's always one guy that doesn't get the runs. He's that guy this year. But his ERA has stayed down. very few poor starts. No dogs in there really. You always have a chance to win. If you look at the whole group of them right now, yeah I'd go with him."

It's crazy to think this is the case now, as two years ago people couldn't dislike Lackey more. Now, though, he's turned it around - and so have the Red Sox.

"I think John Lackey really represents this team in a lot of ways and maybe how the fan base felt about this team," Lou Merloni said. "People couldn't stand John Lackey and what happened a couple years ago. And now all of a sudden just like this team, they're starting to win them back a little bit."
