After stealing five bases in Thursday's game against the Phillies, Jacoby Ellsbury missed the entire three-game series vs. the Yankees due to soreness in his left groin. It is not the first time Ellsbury has missed games to injury, and Lou Merloni said Ellsbury needs to prove that he can play through pain.
"You look at Jacoby Ellsbury, he needs to prove he can go out there and play every single day and play through injury," Merloni said.
With Scott Boras as his agent and Ellsbury nearing free agency, a big concern is his durability and ability to be an everyday player.
"With all of this stuff adding up, it adds up to this point: do you want to bring him back? Do you want to take the risk? I just don't see how you do," Merloni said.
Check out what else Merloni said to Michael Felger in the video.
