With the New York Yankees signing free agent catcher Brian McCann to a five-year, 85 million dollar deal, the options at catcher have become limited for the Boston Red Sox.
The options for the Red Sox include bringing back Jarrod Saltalamacchia, or potentially signing either A.J. Pierzynski or Dioner Navarro.
Sean McAdam joined Jess Moran on SportsNet Central to discuss what the Red Sox will do at catcher since McCann is no longer available.
“The Red Sox always saw McCann as something of a long shot because of the financial commitment it was going to take to sign him given the market he had,” McAdam said. “So there are still some options that I think they are pretty comfortable with. The most obvious one, is of course, bring back Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Although, I think they have to figure out and get on the same page with Saltalamacchia as to how long they want to commit to.”
