Jon Lester started the year winning six of his first nine starts, but has faltered since.

After Sunday's outing vs. the Orioles, Lester fell to 0-4 with a 7.20 ERA in his last six starts. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits in five innings, as his season ERA rose to 4.37.

"It's hard to ignore the warning signs and the negatives," Sean McAdam said about Lester's performance. "He was hit around -- five extra base hits, that's not good -- neither is the fact that the pitch count was up over 100 in five innings."

McAdam said Lester did show some positives (eight strikeouts, no walks), but Lester has not won since May 15. He started the year 6-0 in his first nine starts.

"Both he and John Farrell said it was a good step forward, but that seemed like cold comfort on Sunday afternoon," McAdam said.
