Jon Lester had yet another rough outing Monday night, giving up five runs on nine hits in five innings of work in an 11-4 loss to the Mariners.
Lester is 2-5 with a 6.49 ERA in his last nine starts after a stellar 6-0 start to the season, and appears to be falling into mediocrity, leaving the UNO Sports Tonight crew to question just how good the Red Sox left-hander is.
"Here's the thing, if you woke up Sept. 6, 2011, and thought he was an ace, you were probably right," Lou Merloni said. "Since then is he that guy? Absolutely not. It's frustrating to watch because I watched him (Monday) first two, three innings his stuff was electric, hitting 95, cutter, slider, changeup. Then all of a sudden he hits the wall it's back to the almost taking my ball and going home.
"To me it's 98 percent mental, it's so predictable. When things go bad for him you can actually even see it. Really, you know it's gonna happen."
