After Jon Lester won his second game of the World Series, he tried to downplay his role when answering questions from the media. David Ross chuckled at his pitcher's modesty.
"I really just try not to screw it up for the rest of the guys," Lester said. "Try to keep my team in the ballgame."
Regardless of how he considers his own importance to the team's playoff run, Lester is enjoying every moment, trying to grasp the significance of the accomplishment the Red Sox are one game away from completing.
"I just told Jonny Gomes in the clubhouse, you show up Feb 1, play 162, we're probably at 180 right now, it comes down to one game," Lester said. "Pretty special time. Gotta keep playing baseball the way we've been doing all year."
