John Farrell told MLB Network Radio this afternoon that Junichi Tazawa will be the Red Sox interim closer for the time being with Andrew Bailey and Joel Hanrahan sidelined by injuries.

"We'd look to close Tazawa, keep Koji [Uehara] in the eighth inning role," Farrell said. "Fortunately we have some depth internally."

That depth has dwindled recently, however. During Monday night's 6-5 win over the Twins, Hanrahan left the game in the ninth inning with right forearm tightness after blowing his second save of the season.

Bailey was retroactively placed on the disabled list before Monday's game with inflammation of his biceps. He could be eligible to return for a series with the Rays on May 14.

Tazawa has pitched well for the Red Sox this season, racking up nine holds. In 16 appearances, he has 18 strikeouts to go along with a 2.51 ERA.
