TORONTO -- David Ortiz had what manager John Farrell termed "a very good day" Saturday when he ran the bases in Fort Myers, took six rounds of batting practice on the field, and tracked pitches from rehabbing lefty Franklin Morales during a simulated game.
Ortiz will take part in an extended spring training game, and will repeat the schedule Tuesday and Wednesday, with three or four at-bats each day as the goal.
He could then begin a rehab assignment in Pawtucket as soon as Thursday.
"His recovery time is becoming less and less," said Farrell. "That's the gauge by which we ramp up the intensity. His outlook has become more positive as time goes by. He's in a good place right now and he's looking forward to the next progression here."
