FORT MYERS, Fla. -- John Farrell is happy with how Xander Bogaerts has handled everything thrown his way this spring, processing all the instruction and information with relative ease.

"You can see it in his body language," said Farrell. "I think early on in camp, there was a lot of thought going into everything based on all the work and terminology he was getting from (coach Brian Butterfield) and I think it's translated into some of the plays he's made defensively. He's played very well defensively."

Farrell has seen improvement in range and first-step quickness, as well as a quicker release.

Watching Bogaerts and double-play partner Dustin Pedroia, Farrell said: "They're getting there. There's no concern on our part that there's not going to be a lot of continuity for hopefully a long time to come. That comes with the conversation, that comes with repetition and it comes with games played. They're going to work fine together."
