Jacoby Ellsbury took batting practice on the field prior to Tuesday's game and could see some game action Wednesday night.
Ellsbury has been sidelined for the past 2 1/2 weeks after suffering a non-displaced fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot.
"We'll get through today's workout," said Farrell, "and if he checks out OK, we're hopeful that he can be in the lineup for part of the game (Wednesday) night. He'll go through normal BP here and his exercises that he's been going through."
It's likely Ellsbury will play on a handful of innings with a few at-bats when he comes back and plays for the first time.
"That would be the plan, once that first day (happens)," said Farrell.
