FORT MYERS, Fla. -- More as a precaution than anything else. outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was held out of the lineup Wednesday, giving him another deal for his right heel and ankle to recover from being jammed into the first-base bag Sunday in Clearwater.
"We're just going to give him another day," said manager John Farrell. "We fully expect him to be back in the lineup (Thursday), as we would with Shane (Victorino). Shane's felt some stiffness in that right wrist (when he made a running catch and collided with the center field wall in the same game), so (he'll get) another day.
"We felt like, where we are in spring, we didn't want to push it as much. But he should be back and ready to go for the final three games here."
Ellsbury is set to take batting practice and otherwise have a "normal work day".
