BOSTON - Slowly but surely, Stephen Drew is on the mend - we think.

The Red Sox shortstop took batting practice around 1 p.m. on Saturday, and also fielded some grounders.

He didn't look to be in any sort of pain in the batter's box or in the field.

"Still working through things," Drew said after he took swings. "Going to test some other things out and go from there."

He also said it went how he thought it would go overall - whatever that means.

"I've never had this so just trying to work through it like I said and see where we're at, and gotta do some more things, kind of go through some tests so we'll see where we're at at the end," Drew said.

Asked if he felt any pain, Drew answered in a very Drew-like way.

"I'm just saying, like, taking more swings day by day, and that's a good thing," Drew said. "Going to take it slow and I have to do some more things and make it game speed-like and go from there."

We should know more from manager John Farrell after the game on Saturday.

"This will be the biggest test to date for him," Farrell said of Drew's BP. "If he passes this, we've got him available today. If not, we may have to do something roster wise at that point."
