FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Shortstop Stephen Drew, who has experienced concussion symptoms after being hit on the helmet by a pitch Thursday, has still not been cleared to play.

“He’s improved today,” manager John Farrell said. “He’ll go through some exertion tests on a bike. We’re hopeful that he’d be back on the field for a day of work on Thursday. But there’s improvement being made."

Farrell said Drew is still experiencing “slight symptoms.”

“[The trainers will ] see if they’ll be able to be reproduced in that test today," Farrell said. "But with each passing day, he’s improving.”

Drew must also pass an MLB-mandated online test before he is cleared to play.
