FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Shortstop Stephen Drew will hit on the field with the rest of the regulars Wednesday, and will go through a full day of work.
David Ortiz is scheduled to take BP on the field for the first time since being shut down two weeks ago with recurring soreness in his heel.
"David's making solid progress,'' said manager John Farrell. "There will be some agility work on the field as well.''
Farrell said Ortiz has begun some "straight-ahead running," in the past few days.
"Part of that agililty work will be to change direction and that type of thing,'' he said. "He's feeling like he can progress from hitting in the cage to hitting off the machine to getting on the field today with the normal group.''
Farrell disclosed that Drew experienced "some recurring minor symptoms" on Monday.
"We've got to let those clear up," said Farrell. "He feels improved (Wednesday), so he'll go through that full activity. What's been happening is he'll have those (symptoms) at night after a full day of activity. Sometimes it extended into the following day. When that occurs, it's obvious things aren't back to complete, 100 percent. And it does vary at times. We've just got to go on him."
