The Yankees made a strong showing at Fenway Park this weekend by taking two out of three from the Red Sox. New York has now won seven of its last 10 and sit just six games back of the second wild card spot in the American League.
With about a month and a half left in the season, the Yankees making the playoffs may not be unrealistic. However, Lou Merloni said on Sports Sunday that they simply don't have enough to make it.
"I don't think they have enough to get back into it," Merloni said. "They're making it interesting. This is definitely a better team. This lineup is definitely a much better lineup. But unless the rest of the team continue to play the way they are -- the Red Sox, the Orioles and Tampa Bay sitting around .500, Texas and Oakland out in the West -- I just think it's too much.
"But the good news is they play the east the rest of the way, they've got a lot of games against the Red Sox. So they've got some games against teams in front of them, but I just don't believe in them still, even though they're better now"
After a big series win over the Red Sox, do you think the Yankees have enough to make a run at the postseason?
