The rehabs of Will Middlebrooks (right index finger swelling) and Shane Victorino (lower back pain) aren't going well, as both players have been shut down, but the Sox could get help from someone else on their team soon.

Mike Carp (broken foot) began his rehab with the PawSox on Friday, playing DH and batting third. Carp went 0-for-2, flying to left in the first inning and flying to center in the third inning. Andres Torres pinch-hit for him in the 5th.

On Saturday, Carp DH'd again, this time from the second spot in the order. He went 1-for-3, grounding out to second in the first inning, singling to right in the third, and striking out swinging in the fourth.

He would eventually score in the third inning after a wild pitch moved him up to second base, and a single to center drove him in.

Carp is hitting .214 this season with a .317 OBP and .286 slugging percentage for the Red Sox.

He told the Providence Journal on Friday, “If I had it my way, I’d play today and be back in New York tomorrow. But it’s up to the medical staff and how they evaluate me. Obviously the need right now is great up there. When Farrell says I’m ready to go, I’m ready to go.”
