Clay Buchholz has worked his way back, and picked up his second win Sunday night since rejoining the Red Sox rotation.
Buchholz picked up the victory in a 9-2 win for the Red Sox, as he pitched six innings, allowed two hits, one run, walked four, and struck out three to improve to 11-0.
Mike Felger and Lou Merloni discussed on Sports Sunday how Buchholz has exceeded expectations since his return.
“I don’t think you could have asked for more, or expected more from Clay Buchholz in these two games than what we have gotten,” Felger said. “After the time he was off and how he did not look good in the rehab starts, this is the way it has gone for the Red Sox this year, everything is working out.”
Merloni was impressed with the performances Buchholz has had after such a long layoff.
“He came out and the impressive thing is the feel for his breaking pitches after taking 93 days off,” Merloni said. “Fastball location, right now, seems to be the last piece. It is there at times within the strike zone. He is getting the ground balls and that’s how he got through this one tonight.”
