BOSTON -- The next step for Clay Buchholz will be his second rehab start on Friday. That will take place at either Triple-A Pawtucket or Double-A Portland, and the pitch count is expected to be in the "55-pitch range," according to Red Sox manager John Farrell.

"He came out of the outing the other day fine, physically," said Farrell on Tuesday. "So he'll go through a normal five day work cycle."

Farrell said that Buchholz will then need to make a third rehab start, which could possibly be in a playoff game with Pawtucket. The PawSox have a magic number of "4" to clinch a playoff spot, entering their game Tuesday.

In between, Buchholz will throw a modified bullpen, with some hitters standing in on him.
