What does a perfect 5-0 record with a 1.19 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 39 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 37.2 innings get you?

How about American League Pitcher of the Month for April?

Clay Buchholz was awarded that on Thursday, after one of the hottest starts in Red Sox history that saw them win 18 games and finish with the best record in the Majors.

According to Elias, his 1.19 ERA (prior to last night’s start) was the lowest by a Red Sox hurler through his first five starts of a season since Roger Clemens in 1991 (0.66).

Also according to Elias, Buchholz is the fourth Red Sox pitcher ever to register five victories in April in a single season, joining Babe Ruth (1917), Pedro Martinez (2000) and Josh Beckett (2007), all of whom went 5-0 in the month.
