BALTIMORE -- Veteran lefty reliever Craig Breslow is with the team to experience the season opener and visit the White House Tuesday, even though he's on the DL with left shoulder weakness.
Breslow was brought along slowly, as was the case last spring. He's eligible to come off the DL Saturday, before the team's second home game.
"I think at this point, it will become a baseball decision,'' said Breslow, "and it will be up to John and Ben to make (the call when he's activated). I told them going into this that I felt like I couldl be ready today. But I understand the luxury of being prudent. We have plenty of depth and it gives me the opportunity to come around at exactly the pace that my body is telling me, as opposed to what a calendar indicates.''
Breslow said he's "shooting for'' Saturday to come off the DL.
"At this point, I feel good,'' he said. "I'll pitch back-to-back days (Thursday and Friday for Pawtucket) for my next two outings and at that point it's up to them.''
Breslow threw two innings in a minor league intra-squad game in Fort Myers Sunday.
