FORT MYERS, Fla. -- In the final week of spring training, Xander Bogaerts is heating up, just in time.

Bogaerts struggled through the first three weeks of Grapefruit League play, but has come alive at the plate recently. He had a hard line single in Sunday's 9-2 loss to Tampa Bay, continuing a stretch of better at-bats of late.

"I'm getting there, slowly but surely,'' said Bogaerts. "These last four games, I've been swinging the bat really good. Before that, I was terrible. But I'm getting there, I'm getting where I want to be, for sure.''

Bogaerts' single yesterday lifted his spring average to .200.

"You definitely want to come out of here feeling good,'' said Boagerts. "These last four games, I've been feeling good, so hopefully that continues.''

Manager John Farrell said he's seen this coming.

"I go back to the game (late last week) when he had a couple of hard hits -- double into left-center field, breaking ball base hit to right-center field,'' said Bogaerts. "He looks balanced at the plate, he's not as jumpy as he might have been a week or so ago. The one thing he's done a very good job with is not take his at-bats to the field and like most every everyday player, they're going to take some time to get their rhythm and get their foundation set and it looks like Xander's in that place.''
