Bobby Valentine's strange ride as manager of the Red Sox concluded in appropriate fashion:

On a bicycle.

Reporters met Valentine outside his Boston home Thursday as he was returning from his daily bike ride, and he actually started his final interview wearing his bicycle helmet. He was friendly and engaging, so much so that a reporter asked him why he was smiling.

"My Mom taught me that," he said.
