Jon Lester got out to a fast start, beginning the season 6-0 with a 2.72 ERA in his first nine starts.
But in eleven starts since, Lester has emulated the John Lackey of 2011, going 2-6 with an ERA of 6.27.
Luckily for the Red Sox, they’ve been kept afloat from the contributions of John Lackey, Ryan Dempster, and Felix Doubront, compensating for Lester’s underperformance, as well the absence of Clay Buchholz, who hasn’t pitched since June 8th.
For the Red Sox to remain in first place in the AL East, however, Lester must get back on track.
“Lester needs to give them more,” said Marc Bertrand on CSNNE’s The Show. “He’s looked like a middle-of-the-rotation to a bottom-of-the-rotation guy, he’s gotta be better than that.”
