BOSTON Andrew Bailey was in the Red Sox clubhouse before Thursdays series opener against the Indians. He is expected to stay with the team through the six-game homestand and travel to Cleveland on May 15 or 16 to be examined by Dr. Thomas Graham, who performed the April 4 surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament on Baileys right thumb.
He is progressing as expected so far.
Just working on strengthening it, getting strong, and hopefully start throwing soon, Bailey said. Well see in the next couple of weeks.
Bailey, who is not expected to return until late in the season, does not have a timetable to begin throwing yet, though.
No, not really, he said. Just waiting to see what the doctor says next week, and well kind of have a game plan from there. Got range of motion back and just working on getting some strength back.
