FORT MYERS, Fla. -- There was more than the usual anticipation for a live batting practice session from Alfredo Aceves, given how the first one went.
On Sunday, Aceves seemed to purposely defy instructions and threw his session at half-speed, earning him a stern rebuke from both pitching coach Juan Nieves and manager John Farrell.
Wednesday's session, the second for Aceves, went off without a hitch as Farrell and GM Ben Cherington watched from the first base side.
"He had a good work day today," said Farrell. "(He was) focused with a good effort level. He had a good work day."
One position player who stood in the box against Aceves came off the field and jokingly mouthed "I survived" after his time in the cage.
