The New England Patriots were not without mistakes Sunday in their 24-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins knocking them to 10-4.
Mike Felger, Ty Law, Troy Brown, Mike Flynn and Jerry Thornton tried to pinpoint one player from the Patriots that deserves the most criticism for the loss.
“Defensively they did not step up when they were supposed to step up,” said Law of the Patriots defense which allowed Ryan Tannehill to complete 25 of 37 passes for 312 yards and three touchdowns. “They didn’t play aggressive. Steven Gregory at safety taking bad angles. You can talk about the defense across the board. They gave up too many big plays.”
While the play of the defense had its role in the loss, Brown decided to focus his criticism on the special teams.
“I’m picking a player that I like very much, but today he was not very good for this football team and that’s Stephen Gostkowski,” Brown said. “Missed a 48-yard field goal that changed the way this game was being played and the way teams’ chose to go after points and first downs. And then he turns around and kicks the ball out of bounds after the Patriots were able to take the lead there and possibly ice the game. He kicks the ball out of bounds, gives the Miami Dolphins the ball with 60 yards to go, to go down and win it.”
