FOXBORO -- Sebastian Vollmer wasn't at Wednesday practice, at least not during the early portion when reporters were watching.
The starting left tackle injured a foot during New England's 23-3 win over Tampa Bay this past Sunday. He missed the entire second half of the game and was seen leaving Gillette Stadium in a walking boot. His absence from the mid-week session, held in full pads, doesn't bode well for the Patriots' upcoming game in Atlanta.
Special teams captain Matthew Slater was the only other player not spotted Wednesday. He's still nursing the wrist broken during Week 2's game against the Jets.
Receiver Danny Amendola continues making forward progress. Though he's still obviously favoring that right groin in agility drills, another day of practice is a positive sign.
Might this be the week Rob Gronkowski gets in a game? The tight end continues to be put through the paces with his teammates in hopes of returning soon. Head coach Bill Belichick admitted in his morning press conference Gronkowski has "definitely made progress" over the last three weeks. New England could certainly use him this Sunday night against a tough Falcons team.
A full practice and participation report will be released around 4 p.m.
