The big debate of the week, how badly will the Patriots miss Vince Wilfork?
After sustaining a torn Achilles tendon against the Atlanta Falcons knocking Wilfork out for the rest of the season, the process of replacing him begins this Sunday versus the Cincinnati Bengals.
Andy Hart and Paul Perillo sat down to talk about how big of a loss this really is for the Patriots’ defense.
“I don’t want to minimize the Vince Wilfork injury,” Hart said. “He has been a great player here for a long time. I would argue the best defensive player over the last six, eight years consistently bar none. But it’s a different league, it’s a different NFL, and it’s pass defense. Everybody always talks about how do you make money on defense, you play defensive end and get after the passer and play cornerback and stop the pass. The run stuffers are a dying breed.”
While Hart believes the Patriots won’t miss Wilfork on the field, Perillo thinks the Patriots will miss Wilfork’s leadership in the locker room.
“That’s why I think it is going to be a big loss because it is more off the field,” Perillo said. “This guy to me has really developed into a great leader. I think they are going to miss his presence off the field. I think he was a guy that kept everybody in line.”
