South Carolina's Jadeveon Clowney has been the consensus top player in this year's draft for over a year. His talent is unmistakable, and the Texans made him the No. 1 overall selection on Thursday night.
Clowney's been knocked for his lack of consistent effort, but he's so powerful, and he could be such a disruptive force coming off the defensive line that his promise proved too much to pass on for Houston head coach Bill O'Brien.
Paired with arguably the best defensive lineman in the league -- JJ Watt -- Clowney could make an immediate impact and help the Texans regain the form that helped them go 13-3 in the 2012 regular season.
The Texans are still in need of a quarterback, and we'll be keeping an eye on them tonight as potential trade partners with the Patriots. If talented signal-callers fall to New England's No. 29 pick, a team in need -- like the Texans -- could be calling Bill Belichick with an offer to trade up for his first selection.
