Should Brandon Spikes or Wes Welker be punished by the Patriots? If so, what should the punishment be?

Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes sent out a controversial tweet Wednesday that read:

Im homophobic just like Im arachnophobic. I have nothing against homosexuals or spiders, but Id still scream if I found one in my bathtub !

After receiving several negative comments on Twitter, Spikes then tweeted, PEOPLE !!!! Its a joke seriously a JOKE !!! Chill out

Earlier in the week, in fact, in a postgame interview on Sunday, Pats wide receiver Wes Welker also had a controversial comment.

After his 13-catch day last week in a victory over the Broncos, Welker took a shot at Coach Bill Belichick, telling Comcast SportsNet that it was "kind of nice to stick it in Bill's face once in a while" when asked about his big day compared to his three-catch game in Week 1, which led to stories about him being phased out of the offense.

Like Spikes, Welker later said he was only joking about thecomment.
