Sheriff to keep Hernandez from marrying in jail?

During the arraignment last week of Aaron Hernandez, prosecutors alleged that all it took was a phone call from Hernandez to his fiancée Shayanna Jenkins to cause her to stop helping investigators.

If Jenkins and Hernandez marry while Hernandez is incarcerated, Jenkins could then stay mum legally even if she’s called to the stand in Hernandez’s murder trial.

Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson has considered that hypothetical possibility, and he told USA Today he will try to prevent that from happening.

"I don't subscribe to that,” Hodgson reportedly said. “I feel that those rights are things that you access on the outside, if you're a good citizen. We'll do everything we can to not have that happen."

While Hodgson may desire to keep that from happening, his statement is bound to catch the ear of those whose work is making sure civil liberties aren’t denied, even if the one being denied is facing a murder charge.
