FOXBORO -- Stevan Ridley made for an unexpected absence at the start of Wednesday's practice.

The running back hasn't been on the injury report, and didn't appear to suffer anything more than the usual bumps and bruises during Sunday night's game. Today's practice and participation report, released around 4 p.m., will shed some light on his status.

Receiver Aaron Dobson and defensive back Alfonzo Dennard were on the field -- noteworthy as both players left New England's last game after getting dinged up.

There were only two other Patriots missing: Vince Wilfork and Matthew Slater. Wilfork tore his Achilles during Atlanta's first drive Sunday and had surgery Monday. He's not expected to return this season. Slater is in his third week of recovery from a wrist fracture.

New England wore shells for the workout. Dobson, cornerback Logan Ryan, and offensive lineman Braxton Cave were awarded the black jerseys that designate last week's top practice players.
