It sounds like a pipe dream, and it probably is. But for a second, let's just entertain the idea that New England would entertain the idea of bringing aboard Darrelle Revis in a trade with the Buccaneers.
If it's something the Patriots want to do, they'd have to do it relatively quickly.
Free agency begins on March 11. By then, one would think, the team would have an idea of what the market is for Aqib Talib and whether or not they'd be able to bring him back at a price that seems reasonable to them.
If they can't retain him, then maybe they look to Revis. But they won't have much time.
If the Bucs want to deal Revis, they'd be better off doing so by March 13. That's when Revis collects a $1.5 million roster bonus from Tampa. It's also when the draft pick still owed to the Jets from the Revis trade goes from a fourth rounder to a third rounder.
Sound like incentive?
The Patriots would have to do quite a bit of work to fit Revis' $16 million under the cap -- just one reason why a Revis acquisition seems like fantasy right now. But that doesn't mean it's not fun to chew on.
