Sound the trumpets and roll out the red carpet because Brandon Spikes is back in town.
OK, that may be a bit much. It probably won't be a hero's welcome for the Patriots inside linebacker at Gillette Stadium today, but he's back all the same, according to a report from the Boston Herald. With mandatory minicamp set to begin this week, as predicted, Spikes has finally reported to the team.
He's not technically late, but he missed eight weeks of Patriots voluntary offseason workouts to train in Florida. Since he was the only one on the team to skip the optional workouts, he stuck out like a sore thumb. Though Spikes' absence may signal to some that he's not happy with his contract (of which he's in his final year) or his role, the Herald reports that Spikes is not unhappy with his deal.
After physicals today, Spikes will be on the field with his teammates for the first time this offseason starting tomorrow.
