The Patriots signed tight end D.J. Williams on Tuesday, according CBSSports.com.
Williams was most recently a member of the Jaguars, having signed with Jacksonville after the Packers waived him at the end of training camp. He was released by the Jags earlier this month after appearing in seven games this season without a catch.
The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder was drafted by the Packers out of Arkansas in the fifth round of the 2011 draft after being named the John Mackey Award winner in 2010 as the best tight end in college football.
The Patriots have been short-staffed of late at the tight end position. Only Rob Gronkowski and Matthew Mulligan were active against the Broncos on Sunday night. Michael Hoomanawanui missed the game with a knee injury, and it's not yet known how much time he will be forced to miss going forward.
