With the Patriots loading up on new receivers over the weekend, they've decided that one of their holdovers from last year became expendable.
According to a report from ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, the team has informed receiver Jeremy Ebert that he will be released. Ebert was a seventh-round pick out of Northwestern in 2012. He did not make the team out of training camp and spent some time on the Eagles practice squad before returning to New England toward the end of last season.
The Patriots made it a point to overhaul their receiver group this offseason. The acquired veterans Danny Amendola, Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins via free agency. They added Marshall's Aaron Dobson and TCU's Josh Boyce in the draft. Then, after the draft, the Patriots signed two more undrafted free-agent receivers: Cincinnati's Kenbrell Thompkins and Missouri's TJ Moe.
