Jeff Demps isn't your average undrafted free agent. The financial commitment the Patriots made to the speedster from Florida tells the story.
While most undrafted players do not receive a signing bonus, Demps got 11,000 for signing with New England, according to Demps will also receive 200,000 guaranteed of the 390,000 base salary agreed upon if he makes the 53-man roster.
If Demps does make the team, the 211,000 he would get is the second-largest amount given to a 2012 undrafted free agent. Only Cowboys offensive lineman Ronald Leary has been guaranteed more (214,000).
Demps hasn't yet practiced with the Patriots, and he isn't a lock to make the roster. But he does have world-class speed -- as he showed when he won a silver medal in London as a member of the U.S. 4 x 100 meter relay team -- and could prove himself worthy of a spot in the team's two remaining preseason games.
