The Patriots defense took another blow to its starting unit on Sunday. Starting safety Steve Gregory broke his thumb in New England's 55-31 win over the Steelers, and according to a report from ESPN, is expected to miss "a few weeks."
Gregory joins the list of Patriots defensive starters to go down with injury in 2013. Vince Wilfork (Achilles), Tommy Kelly (knee) and Jerod Mayo (pectoral) have all been placed on season-ending injured reserve with their injuries. Aqib Talib (hip) has missed New England's last three games, and defensive end Rob Ninkovich left Sunday's win with a foot injury.
The bye week comes at a good time for the Patriots. NFL Network reported that Gregory -- if he can play with a cast on his broken thumb -- may not have to miss any game action after having this week off.
If Gregory does miss time, rookie safety Duron Harmon will likely be his replacement.
