FOXBORO -- There was a packed house at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday for the first joint practice between the Patriots and Eagles. Here are the details on what was a spirited session.

WEATHER
Another borderline perfect day. Temperatures in the 80s and partly cloudy. The teams may not be so lucky on Wednesday as the forecast calls for rain.

ATTENDANCE
Jerod Mayo was not on the practice field -- something certainly worth monitoring going forward as he is the glue for New England's linebacking corps and one of the most important players on the Patriots defense.

Ryan Mallett and Brandon Browner were both back on the field and in full pads. Mallett had missed the previous two practice sessions, and was sporting a leg brace that covered the entirety of his lower left leg.

DJ Williams, Cameron Gordon, Bryan Story, Michael Hoomanawanui, Chris Martin, Jeremy Gallon, Chris Jones and Sealver Siliga were out.

WHAT THEY DID
After the usual warmup period, the Eagles and Patriots got together for a series of one-on-one drills. Corners and receivers matched up, as did backs, tight ends and linebackers. Offensive and defensive linemen squared off as well.

The teams took part in some kickoff work interspersed with 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 work. The teams worked on multiple situations -- both featured a hurry-up tempo in two-minute drills, something each has become known for -- and got a lot of repetitions. Good solid day of work with an aggressive feel that never crossed the line. (No, chatty Eagles corner Cary Williams was not targeted for physical play and didn't exhibit anything out-of-bounds himself.)

The teams finished with some field goal work before the Patriots completed conditioning runs while the Eagles met in the middle of the field.

WHAT WE SAW
* Some fun matchups to watch during the one-on-one period between Patriots receivers and Eagles defensive backs. First up? Cary Williams and Kenbrell Thompkins. Thompkins beat Williams off the line to the inside and Williams tugged on Thompkins' jersey resulting in an incompletion...Danny Amendola nearly shook Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins out of his shoes during one repetition that involved multiple fakes and stutter steps...Julian Edelman's quick moves were also on display in one-on-ones. The connection he has with Brady is unparalleled and with only one defender and an open field, he looked near impossible to cover.

* Dont'a Hightower saw plenty of reps in the middle of the Patriots defense with Mayo out. Jamie Collins also saw reps in the middle as well as on the edge as an outside 'backer.

* Brian Tyms saw a little bit of work with Tom Brady and the first-team offense.

* Roy Finch and James White took reps as the first-team kick returners. Matthew Slater and Josh Boyce were in the second group. Plenty of 11-on-11 kickoff work on Tuesday.

* Defensive tackle Joe Vellano got some valuable reps with the first-team defense early on in the 11-on-11 period. Linebacker Darius Fleming also saw plenty of action with Mayo out.

* Interesting to see a jumbo package out of the Patriots in 11-on-11 work: Sebastian Vollmer at right tackle, Nate Solder at tight end and tight end Ben Hartsock lined up next to Solder on the line.

* Many different offensive line pairings on Tuesday. (We've made note of some in 11-on-11 notes below.) Marcus Cannon saw time at right tackle at one point with Solder at left tackle and Vollmer at tight end next to Solder.

* Darrelle Revis was apparently called for a defensive hold on Jeremy Maclin during the 11-on-11 period. Official John Parry said before practice that would start to get used to those types of calls by Week 1.

* Pretty good day out of the mixed-and-matched offensive line. No "sacks" allowed in 11-on-11 work due to immediate pressure on Patriots quarterbacks. A good sign after New England was worked over in terms of protection last week against the Redskins.

* The crowd appreciated a pair of fake field goals by both teams near the end of the session. Fun moments on which to end the day.

WHO'S HOT
* Brandon LaFell with yet another good day of practice. Shows a good rapport with Tom Brady.

* Both Danny Amendola and Julian Edelman looked too quick for Eagles defensive backs.

* With Jerod Mayo out, Jamie Collins had no problem lining up. Appeared to be in the right place at the right time at all times.

WHO'S NOT
* A so-so day for Darrelle Revis, who didn't always appear to go full speed.

* Dont'a Hightower was in position to make some plays in coverage in the passing game but couldn't get his hands on the ball.
