INDIANAPOLIS - The New York media rushed around Monday trying to create a story from Tom Brady's perceived promise of a Super Bowl win this Sunday in Indianapolis.While Giants players told the New York agitators that Brady's comments were innocuous,the same dogged groupeither ignored or was blissfully unaware that Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz actually did guarantee a Big Blue win in Super Bowl XLVI. According to the New York Post, "at School 21 in his hometown of Paterson, NJ yesterday, Cruz gave the frenzied crowd of 5,000 a Joe Namath-style guarantee that hell prevail against his old nemesis. " 'We are definitely coming back with a W,he said to wild cheers."BostonSportsMediaWatch.combrought Cruz' comments to light locally. Our guy Phil Perry noted that the Giants' principal players didn't much care foran effort to make Brady's comments a rallying point. Bradytold a crowd in Foxboro Sundayhe hoped even more fans would show up post-Super Bowl than came to the team's sendoff party on Sunday. Meanwhile, Cruz' prediction was crystal clear. In the end, who says what to a gathering of fans about the Super Bowl will have minimal bearing on Sunday's game. Yet the New York media milked Brady's comments for an entire news cycle. And we wonder where all the candor has gone.
